Our exhaust systems embody three distinct sound modes: the Dr. Jekill mode, the dynamic mode and the Mr. Hyde mode. By a simple push of a button a valve inside the muffler closes, opens or opens halfway, which gives you the possibility to easily adjust your sound on the fly: silent, dynamic or rumbling. The Exhaust is a result of German engineering and Dutch craftsmanship. By riders, for riders. With state of the art technology, perfectly crafted by the best engineers in town, we’ve created a tailor made exhaust for each and every bike.
All our exhaust systems need to withstand all kinds of extreme (weather)conditions and extreme heat. Therefore they are thoroughly tested, before going into production. When all the tests are passed and an exhaust becomes available to the public, only the highest quality materials are used for the production which are all sourced from trusted suppliers in Europe.
With everything we do, we want to give our customers the ultimate riding and driving experience. We want to achieve this by offering the possibility to adjust or customize this experience. We want to pursue our mission and vision by developing and supplying premium quality aftermarket products and services, in compliance with legislation, always exceeding customer service expectations.

Our brand name Dr. Jekill & Mr. Hyde | The Exhaust is based on the 1886 novel “The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde”. It tells the tale of Dr. Henry Jekyll, a gentle and well-mannered doctor, living in Victorian London. He has a particular fascination with good and evil in human nature and starts to do various experiments. As a result he transforms into Mr. Edward Hyde; a vile and demonic persona that is the embodiment of evil.
It is only by using a special potion that he can control his horrible alter-ego and return to being Dr. Henry Jekyll. Just like the novel’s main protagonist, our exhaust systems have two (actually three) distinct personalities. But unlike in the novel, the Mr. Hyde in our exhaust systems is easily tamed; by a simple touch of a button, you can switch it on and off.
Every success starts out small. Even though Dr. Jekill & Mr. Hyde is now an established brand within the motorcycle world, it was only a little more than 25 years ago that Dr. Jekill & Mr. Hyde was merely an idea...
Time flies when you are doing cool stuff. For some of us it feels like yesterday that The Jekill and Hyde Company was just a small business that was run from a garage in the small village of Belfeld in The Netherlands and not the worldwide operation it is today. A lot of things have changed since the humble beginnings, yet the basic principle always stayed the same; an electronically adjustable exhaust system for motorcycles, giving riders the possibility to ‘adjust your sound to the moment’.
The idea was born during a visit to the well-known MotoGP TT in Assen. In that time most people rode with drag pipes, which resulted in an extreme accumulation of sound (or noise, depending how you look at it) when you rode in a pack. So why not provide the option to be ‘silent’ or ‘loud’ when it was appropriate?
This idea was soon realized in several prototypes and the first customers found their way to Belfeld. When the company was founded in 1997 you could come by with your Harley-Davidson, Japanese racer or your car for that matter; you would get a custom-made exhaust, hand-crafted for your means of transportation and built from scratch.
An electronically adjustable exhaust system allows the rider to choose between different sound modes. This means that the rider can enjoy the ride with his favorite soundtrack coming from his exhaust, but also be silent and calm when this is appropriate.
In the period between 1997 and 2007 the foundations were laid due to later success. The Jekill and Hyde Company toured all over Europe to show its innovative product everywhere. The company owes much of its name recognition to this phase.
Operating in this modus for several years, the brand started getting a reputation within the motorcycle scene and triggered not only the interest of riders, but also of investors. One investor saw big opportunities for the small company and decided not only to pump some serious cash into the operation, but also take over the reins. He had some ambitious plans for the company's future. At this stage our main segment was the chopper/cruiser part of the motorcycle world.
In the period between 1997 and 2007 the foundations were laid due to later success. The Jekill and Hyde Company toured all over Europe to show its innovative product everywhere. The company owes much of its name recognition to this phase.
The biggest goal for the company was the European Type Approval. Gone were the times where every vehicle containing an engine could get an exhaust; the system had to become legal. Many hours in the workshop, frustrations and the well-known blood, sweat and tears finally paid off. In 2010 the European Type Approval was obtained! From that point a new period for The Jekill and Hyde Company started and it became the company as most of you know it; a manufacturer of fully legal exhaust systems for selected motorcycles. This year The Jekill and Hyde Company GMBH (Germany) is the first outside the Netherlands to be founded.
Due to the strong growth that The Jekill and Hyde Company experienced, the business model switched to B2B. If you wanted to buy an exhaust, you had to go to your dealership, ringing the doorbell at the factory was no longer an option (which is still the case to this day).
Headquartered in Belfeld, The Netherlands, The Jekill and Hyde Company is expanding by opening offices in France and Switzerland, and kicks off exploring new markets outside Europe, like Canada and Japan.
In 2014 we added exhausts for Indian Motorcycles to our product range. Indian creates iconic motorcycles with a great legacy and tons of character. Dr. Jekill & Mr. Hyde has just that in common with America’s First and oldest motorcycle company.
An important next step in our existence was the move into a new, modern workplace. A place befitting the professionalism that characterizes The Jekill and Hyde Company and a perfect starting position to branch out even more. The existing building has been expanded and renamed the product development center.
The Smartbox has been introduced, an innovation in the field of electronic control through Can Bus communication. The Smartbox makes sure a rider will not end up on the wrong side of the law no matter what mode is selected. By committing the system to the parameters set by EU legislation, the Smartbox will seamlessly and subtly intervene if necessary.
Dr. Jekill & Mr. Hyde’s exhaust becomes available for BMW Motorrad. The R-series of BMW gets added to the product range and subsequently it becomes possible to equip KTM with The Exhaust. A big step in the company's existence, broadening our previous focus on the cruiser / chopper segment.
A highlight to be proud of: the delivery of the 150,000th Dr. Jekill & Mr. Hyde electronically adjustable exhaust system! Another confirmation that the mission and vision are successful: maintaining and extending our world leading position in developing, manufacturing and supplying the best adjustable exhaust systems for motorcycles.
The Beat for BMW R18 was added to the roster. An exhaust that lets you hear and feel the iconic punch of the 1800cc boxer engine and discover the real soul and sound of the BMW R18. With the R18, BMW Motorrad entered the cruiser segment. Like no other BMW motorcycle, this model is completely in the tradition of historic BMW motorcycles - both technically and in design - with a riding experience that is as cultivated as it is emotional.
Later that year The Jekill and Hyde Company launched a series of exhausts for Triumph Motorcycles, making the brand a part of the growing Dr. Jekill & Mr. Hyde family. Triumph's passion and innovative power has shaped the evolution of motorcycles. Always focused on a complete, tailor made riding experience, without forgetting its rich history and incorporating it into their timeless, versatile models. Stylish, eloquent but still badass. The Jekill and Hyde Company has created an electronically adjustable exhaust that gives riders the opportunity to adjust their sound to the moment and choose a sound mode for every situation. At the push of a button. Riders can be eloquent and silent if they wish or be heard when the situation asks for it.
The new Nomad for Harley-Davidson Pan America is introduced. The manufacturer who was known for the traditional bikes that roamed the world’s highways, all of a sudden came out with a bike that could be ridden beside aforementioned highways. The Pan America is not only a bike that sets the bar very high for Harley-Davidson, but for The Jekill and Hyde Company it also was clear that it should not be just any exhaust that would be developed for this motorcycle. The result is The Nomad - an exhaust that would not only provide the best sound, but also perfectly match the look and feel of the Pan America. A true highlight in The Jekill and Hyde Company’s existence.
Next to the new Nomad, in 2022 The Jekill and Hyde Company released The Supreme for Indian Chief. The new Chief is an icon that got completely renewed and made ready for the new decade. It gave this bike the ultimate finishing touch with the Supreme, with the best sound you ever heard out of an Indian motorcycle.
Started with Harley-Davidson, but branched out to BMW, Indian and most recently Triumph Motorcycles, The Jekill and Hyde Company has grown significantly over the years. Starting in a garage and now with offices in Germany, Switzerland, France, Canada and agents in Japan, Singapore, South-Africa and the Czech Republic they have come quite a long way in 25 years. With more than 80 employees all over the world The Jekill and Hyde Company has created a product that gives many riders joy. Many things changed, yet the basic principle always stayed the same: a system to ‘adjust your sound to the moment’ and to give motorcyclists the ultimate riding experience.
Keeping that in mind and as the core principle as The Jekill and Hyde Company celebrates its 25th anniversary as the industry leader in electronically adjustable exhaust systems and is looking forward to the next 25!
“Loud pipes save lives” is a rather clichéd slogan you hear many bikers say. Often this is used as an excuse to have an extremely noisy exhaust that hurts your ears, but like many clichés there is some truth in this saying. Here at The Jekill and Hyde Company we are avid motorcycle riders and we care about our own safety and the safety of our fellow riders. All bikers know that they are very vulnerable and often overlooked by cars and trucks.
When you are on the open road a Dr. Jekill & Mr. Hyde exhaust system certainly adds to your safety. You can make yourself heard and other road users will know that you are there. Can you hear our exhaust? Definitely! Does it hurt your ears? No. We have put a lot of time into the design of the sound, making it enjoyable and not annoying. In this case we would like to change the saying a bit to: “Great sounding pipes save lives!”.

The FD Gazellen Awards are awards that Het Financieele Dagblad (part of FD Mediagroep) grants to the fastest growing companies in the Netherlands. In 2015 The Jekill & Hyde Company won the prestigious award.
Together with Akarton BW we won a silver EFTA award for the Flexo wood-look print that they designed and developed for the shipment of our exhaust systems.
